Haven Youth Lacrosse – Boys

Registration for Spring 2024 opens Monday January 15 and closes Friday, February 16, 2024.

Please do not delay in registering. We will not accept late registrations once rosters have been submitted to the league.

Lacrosse is the game everyone wants to play!

Haven Youth Lacrosse fields travel teams at grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 for both boys and girls.  Boys play in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse Association (SEPYLA).

Practice will begin 1 day per week during the last week of February at either Hockey Dek in Springfield or MSI in Chichester. Twice weekly practices start on Wallingford-Swarthmore School District fields in April for grades 3/4 and 5/6. Grades 7/8 will practice one time per week to accommodate middle school sports. Practices are 60-90 minutes with games once or twice a week. Beginners in all divisions are most welcome!

SEPYLA regular season games begin March 23 (no games on March 30-31) and extend through May 13, with playoffs scheduled the following weeks.

COACHES: Teams are coached by parents, supported by HYL, and we are always in need of more volunteers – even if you never played the game. If you are interested in coaching, please reach out to us or check the box at registration.  Even if you know nothing about lacrosse, there is a way you can help!

HYL is committed to bringing lacrosse to everyone who wants to play.  Lacrosse equipment can be expensive.  We have used equipment and jerseys and distribute for use if needed by any player – just let us know.  We also have some new sticks for families who need them, and we offer scholarships to reduce the price of registration as well.  We want you to be able to play!

USA LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP: As a condition of our participation in league play, all HYL players and coaches must have a valid USA Lacrosse membership that expires after June 10, 2024.  This includes any parents who help out on the field at practice or a game.  Coaches are reimbursed for the cost of their membership.  USA Lacrosse has lots of resources for families who are new to the game.

WHO: Boys in grades 3-8

WHERE: WSSD fields including Rutgers Avenue Field, Mesa Field, and King Stadium; MSI in Chichester (early spring practices)

WHEN: late February – May 2024

• We are attempting to keep practices the same as last year. Beginning in April, 3/4 boys will likely practice on Mondays and Wednesdays with 5/6 boys practicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practice location is at Rutgers Avenue Field.
• Boys 7/8 practice once a week during the Strath Haven Middle School season as most players choose to participate in both teams. Every effort is made to accommodate the middle school sports schedule.
• Boys’ games are typically Sundays and Wednesdays for 3/4 and 5/6, Saturdays for 7/8.

EQUIPMENT: Boys equipment (for field players) consists of a helmet, arm pads, mouth guard, stick, and chest pads.  Chest pads must comply with NOCSAE guidelines, which means that, in most cases, they must be new.  Lacrosse equipment is expensive.   HYL has a limited number of new sticks to distribute to families who need them as well as some used equipment to distribute.  Please order your equipment early.

UNIFORMS: Each player will need to purchase a uniform unless they have one that fits from last year. Boys’ required uniform consists of shorts, shooter shirt, and a jersey. Please place your uniform order by February 12,  2023, and include multiple player number options.  Spirit wear is optional.

Please note that the jerseys for boys run SMALL but that the boys’ shorts run LARGE.  We recommend checking the sizing charts for accurate measurements of each item.

BOYS REGISTRATION
