Why choose SRA travel soccer?
Our younger travel teams all play in the Central League. This league was created with the understanding that kids do not have to travel far from home to enjoy competitive, instructive games. The Central League (and Swarthmore Soccer) are focused on developing soccer skills and a love of the game. The Swarthmore travel teams in the Central League play neighboring towns such as Springfield, Marple Newtown, Havertown and Rose Tree. Home games are played right in Swarthmore.
Not only is that kid friendly, it’s family friendly as well!
How does it work?
SRA travel soccer is run by a full group of dedicated parent volunteers who help with the website, marketing, and most importantly, coaching. Our organization supports our coaches by giving them instructions and information to coach their team and to hire trainers as the children advance in the age groups. We start by hosting tryout evaluations in the spring, usually April. Once teams are selected, we conduct practices over the summer. In the fall we participate in an eight week travel soccer program with weekly practices and one weekend game. We try to have at least one team in every age group U9 through U16 for both boys and girls. Some teams will also play over the winter or spring.
What does it cost?
We try to keep our fees as low as possible! Fall league registration fees are roughly $250. A full uniform set (jerseys, shorts, socks) will set you back roughly $60. Some teams may also engage trainers to help teach the kids. That can add $50-150 per season and will be discussed and collected by the teams which use them.
Who is eligible?
While most kids who begin travel soccer have played on intramural teams in the past, it is not a requirement. All that is required is interest and enthusiasm for the game and a commitment to the team!
What are the age groups?
See this chart from US Soccer. Age groups are now based simply on your child’s birth year.
How can my son / daughter try out for an SRA travel soccer team?
Tryouts/Evaluations are held in Spring, see the Info For Players page. If you missed tryouts, contact our the Boys or Girls Commissioner to see if there still may be a spot open for your child!
